Getting ready for the weekend and BBQ and hoping it's going to warm up! But even if it doesn't here is a recipe that will crank the heat up!
My hubby loves it HOT! I, on the other hand, do not. But for him, I will do pretty much anything...Mister wants spicy? Baby I will give you SPICY! I used to always buy him ready made hot sauce and it was always a hit or miss...not hot enough...not flavourful enough ..and so on. I have been making him hot sauce for a while now and I love it when he jumps around the kitchen enjoying the pain of the heat and the burst of flavours. That said, even my homemade hot sauce is not very spicy sometimes. It's hard to find really hot peppers.
When I started ordering from LUFA Farms a few weeks ago, I purchased one tiny little peach habanero pepper. I gave it to him whole with his meal; something he regularly does. After the first nibble (actually I think he took a big bite) his mouth was on FIRE!. He was hopping around the kitchen and drinking everything in sight. He was like WHERE DID YOU GET THIS PEPPER! To which I sweetly replied, ''LUFA Farms my love.'' He could not believe how hot the pepper was....SCORE!!!
In that same order, I had purchased a jalapeno pepper which he steered clear of and in my most recent order from LUFA Farms I purchased a golden cayenne pepper...I had a plan...hot sauce time!
Here is the recipe for my quick, easy, flavourful HOT HOT HOT sauce.
PS: I tried it with a glass of milk handy for emergency purposes. At first I tasted a wonderful mix of flavours ...then I was sucker-punched by the heat...can't wait for him to try it.
- 1 jalapeno pepper
- 1 golden cayenne pepper
- 1 diced shallot
- A handful of capers
- 1 large roasted red pepper
- The juice of 1 lime
- 3 tbsps. of EVOO
- A pinch of salt
Throw all the ingredients into a blender, I used my Magic Bullet, and blend until smooth.
Please be careful to wash your hands well after handling the hot peppers.
